1. What is the ANCA Capital
Gateway Program?
The ANCA Capital Gateway Program is designed
to assist Armenian Americans across the U.S. find job and internship
opportunities on Capitol Hill or other government agencies in Washington,
DC. The program builds on the successful 20-year old ANCA Leo Sarkisian
summer internship program, which has brought hundreds of youth leaders
to Washington, DC to learn about the American political process
and the key role Armenian Americans play in advancing issues of
concern to our community.
2. How does the program
work?
Interested students and recent graduates are
encouraged to fill out the Capital Gateway Program application in
order to be considered for the program. Once a candidate has been
approved for the program, the ANCA will offer its assistance in
finding full time work or an internship on Capitol Hill, other government
agency or think tank in Washington, DC. We will provide leads on
job and internship openings and provide a base for candidates to
conduct their search. For students, we will also provide information
on University sponsored semester-in-Washington, DC programs. 
3. What types of resources
does the program offer?
Approved candidates will be assisted based on
their individual needs. Graduates seeking jobs will have access
to ANCA office facilities (computers, internet access, phone, fax,
etc.) to conduct their job search. The ANCA will also offer leads
and contacts to potential positions in Congressional offices.
For students seeking internships, the ANCA will
help secure a position prior to their arrival. If a student is participating
in the program through their University, the ANCA will help to ensure
that all the requirements are met and that the student is established
in Washington to complete the semester.
4. What type of housing
will be provided?
The ANCA can provide housing for up to four qualified
applicants per term. The housing will be located in the Washington,
DC area, close to public transportation and with quick and easy
access to anywhere in Washington. Qualifications for this housing
are specified in the application to the program.
5. Are there any changes
to the Leo Sarkisian Summer Internship Program?
Yes. The internship has been extended this summer
from 6 weeks to a full 8 weeks, to allow the interns to maximize
their time in the nation's capital.
